Process and Technology

3. The influence of the wiring of the pad connector and the
through-hole position on the SMT production:
the wiring of the pad connector and the through-hole position have
a great influence on the welding yield of the SMT, because improper
pad connections and through-holes may act as a“Steal” solder, the
liquid solder is sucked out of the reflow furnace. The following
conditions are good for the quality of the product:
(1) Reduce the width of the pad connector: if there are no current
carrying capacity and PCB manufacturing size restrictions, the
maximum width of the pad connector is 0.4 mm or 1/2 pad width, can
be smaller.
(2) Pads connected to a large area of conductive tape (e. g. ,
ground, power supply) are preferably connected with a narrow wire
not less than 0.5 mm in length (width not greater than 0.4 mm or
width not greater than 1/2 pad width) .
(3) Avoid connecting wires from the side or a corner into the pad.
Preferably, the connecting wire enters from the middle of the rear
of the pad.
(4) The through hole should not be placed in or directly near the
pad of the SMT assembly. The reason is: the through hole in the pad
will attract solder into the hole and cause solder to leave the
solder joint; directly near the hole in the pad, even if there is a
good green protection, it may cause heat sink effect, will change
the solder joint infiltration speed, it leads to the phenomenon of
erecting tablet, which will hinder the normal formation of solder
joint when it is serious.
(5) The connection between the through hole and the pad is
preferably folded with a narrow connection line of length not less
than 0.5 mm
